Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya recognized the pivotal role of education, research, and academic services in veterinary science in advancing career development, health, food safety, and food security within the agriculture, livestock farming, and animal breeding sectors across the 14 southern provinces. Consequently, during his tenure, Associate Professor Pracheep Chuphan, the Rector at that time, initiated the establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the Nakhon Si Thammarat Campus. Professor Peerasak Chanprateep was appointed as the university’s advisor for the establishment of the faculty, with Assistant Professor Teerawit Chanthip serving as the chairman of the founding committee since January 2006.

Subsequently, the Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya Council approved the 6-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program during its first meeting of 2008 on January 25, 2008. Furthermore, the council formally sanctioned the establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Science in its second meeting of 2008 on February 29, 2008. An official announcement regarding the establishment of departments within Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya was made, with the Faculty of Veterinary Science becoming the first of its kind in the southern region and the seventh in Thailand.

The faculty admitted its inaugural cohort of 42 undergraduate students into the 6-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program for the 2008 academic year. The Office of the Higher Education Commission acknowledged and approved the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine curriculum on July 20, 2009. Subsequently, the Office of the Civil Service Commission certified the program’s qualifications on March 29, 2012. The Veterinary Council has since endorsed the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine curriculum, effective from the 2012 academic year onwards.
